Wimbledon Warriors: USD’s Oliver Tarvet and August Holmgren Enter the Main Draw

USD’s rising senior, Oliver Tarvet, and men’s tennis alumni, August Holmgren, have secured their first-ever appearances in a Grand Slam tournament by successfully navigating through the Wimbledon qualifying rounds.

Tarvet, ranked 719th globally, defeated opponents ranked 124th, 126th, and 210th during the qualifying tournament, and defeated Leandro Riedi in his first round of Wimbledon (6-4, 6-4, 6-4). He is the first British man in eight years to qualify for the main draw through the qualifying rounds, and takes on the reigning champion, Carlos Alcaraz, on Wednesday.

Holmgren, ranked 195th worldwide, secured his breakthrough by overcoming players ranked 179th, 190th, and 376th. This marks his first main draw appearance after previously reaching the qualifying stages at both the French Open and Australian Open. His final qualifying victory was particularly grueling with three sets requiring a tiebreaker at six-all.

Former USD Football Head Coach, Jim Harbaugh, will be in attendance, in addition to hearing from our players and keynote speaker. The evening will be dedicated to raising funds to support our Torero Football Team through a silent auction and a variety of other fundraising opportunities.
