Torero Victories All Across the Board!

All-Sport Success for the Toreros: Big Wins, Top Rankings, and Unmatched Community Support!

MEN’S SOCCER CONTINUES TO SHINE

We were on hand at Torero Stadium this past Saturday to witness the #8 San Diego Toreros deliver a dominant, cohesive performance against the West Coast Conference-leading Oregon State Beavers. The 2-0 victory was a true team effort, led by a pair of electric goals from junior forward Samy Kanaan and a stalwart defensive display anchored by sophomore goalkeeper Donovan Parisian.

This impressive result has propelled the Toreros to a new national ranking - they are now #4 in the country, cementing their status as one of the top teams in college soccer. Kanaan and Parisian were both recognized for their standout performances, earning WCC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors respectively.

San Diego's commanding win over the conference leaders showcased the depth and talent of this Toreros squad. As they continue their WCC campaign, the #4 Toreros are poised for an extended run at both the conference and national level. We can't wait to see what this team accomplishes next!

Alumni Spotlight

Thana Fayad

Former USD volleyball standout Thana Fayad (2016-2021) is making waves in European professional volleyball as she prepares for her third season competing overseas. For Fayad, who grew up on a small island off the west coast of Canada, the journey to becoming a professional athlete has been both challenging and rewarding.

"Nothing worth having ever comes easy," reflects Fayad, who credits her collegiate experience for preparing her for the demands of professional athletics. "The habits you build during university will follow you into your professional life."

While competing at the professional level in Europe, Fayad maintains strong connections with her former teammates and coaches through regular calls and FaceTime sessions. These relationships, forged during her time as a student-athlete, continue to provide support throughout her professional career.

"Soak it in, and take care of your body," Fayad advises current student-athletes who might aspire to play professionally. "Cherish the relationships you form with teammates and staff as they will continue to support you throughout your career."

Now thriving in her professional career overseas, Fayad looks back fondly on her collegiate years: "It was some of the best, most fulfilling years of my youth. I am grateful every day for having been a Torero."

A special thank you to Thana from us at the Olé Foundation for showcasing what it means to be a Torero and what can come from competing at USD. We are extremely proud of her and all that she’s accomplished as a student and as a professional!
