ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

Megan Jacobsen

We are proud to feature Megan Jacobsen in this week’s alumni spotlight!

From Torero Volleyball Star to Global Professional

Megan Jacobsen, a 2020 USD graduate from Tacoma, Washington, exemplifies the spirit of Torero athletics. As a middle hitter for the volleyball team, Megan contributed to two conference championships and a Sweet Sixteen appearance during her time at USD.

Her journey didn't end there – after graduation, Megan played beach volleyball at Texas Christian University and went on to compete professionally in France and Spain for two years. "If I could do it all over again, I absolutely would!" Megan enthuses, embodying the Torero spirit.

Life Lessons from USD Athletics

Megan credits her USD experience with preparing her for life beyond the court. The time management skills, dedication, and teamwork she developed as a student-athlete have been invaluable in her career.

"Being able to persevere when things get hard is a quality I'm grateful to have, thanks to my time at USD," she reflects. These skills, honed through countless practices and matches, have translated seamlessly into her professional life.

Advice for Current Toreros

For current student-athletes, Megan's advice is clear: stay involved and make the most of your USD experience. "Go to teachers' office hours, talk with coaches one-on-one, participate in the career fair, join a club," Megan advises.

She emphasizes the importance of building strong friendships and utilizing all available resources, including coaches, faculty, and teachers. "And pay attention in your language class—you might need it one day!" she adds, hinting at the unexpected ways her USD education has served her in her international career.

Staying Connected

Even after graduation, Megan remains an active part of the USD community. She attends Alumni games, keeps in touch with teammates and coaches, and follows USD social media for updates. Her favorite USD memory? The Celebration of Excellence ceremony, where teams compete in lip-sync battles—a tradition that still brings laughter years later. This ongoing connection to her alma mater demonstrates the lasting impact of the Torero experience.

Megan's journey from USD student-athlete to a global professional is a testament to the power of a USD education and the enduring spirit of Torero athletics. Her story serves as an inspiration to current and future Toreros, reminding us all of the incredible opportunities and lifelong connections that await at USD. Go Toreros!
