THE FUTURE OF USD ATHLETICS

J.T. Rogan, Olé Foundation Executive Director

My fellow Toreros, welcome to the future of supporting USD athletics — the Olé Foundation!

The Olé Foundation is the home of NIL for Torero student-athletes and fans. While supporting Torero teams through contributions to the university is still necessary, NIL contributions to our athletes are too! This weekly newsletter will have an NIL conscious approach to maintaining and building upon Torero athletic greatness.

This newsletter will routinely provide:

  1. Personal messages and stories from Torero student-athletes

  2. Insights into our championship caliber teams and latest signings

  3. A clear view of how your generous contributions are directly affecting our teams and student-athletes

ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

Before diving deeper, I want to address for everyone what NIL really means.

NIL stands for "name, image, and likeness" and refers to the rights of college (and even high school) athletes to earn money by promoting products, services, or companies. This can include activities such as public appearances, autograph signings, brand deals, product endorsements, social media posts, and charity advocacy.

At the Olé Foundation, we are an alumni-based athletics group empowering our teams, coaches, and student athletes through NIL opportunities. Any athlete, and any sport across Torero athletics can be supported through NIL earnings via Olé Foundation.

As with everything new, we're asking for your support to spread the word. Our referral program is now live! I ask that if everyone here could just refer one additional fellow torero alumni to the newsletter that’d mean the world to us.

HOW DONATIONS WORK

Donating to your favorite Torero team and student-athletes is now simpler than ever and a donation to Olé Foundation is very much a donation to USD athletics.

All donations can be made via the Olé Foundation Fundraising page.

To donate, simply:

  1. Select your contribution (one-time or recurring)

  2. Select your sport

  3. Deposit funds

Take a look below for more guidance:

Step 1: Olé Foundation Homepage

Step 2: Select your team/sport

Next week, I’ll be providing more information around enterprise and large scale donations ($10,000+) as well as more specifics around utilizing businesses for NIL contribution & future tax deductibility of donations made to Olé Foundation.

I’ll be working closely with our coaches and our athletic department staff to make sure we support our players & teams in the best way possible. We thank you, our most loyal supporters, who are with us from the beginning. Go Toreros!

THE DIAMOND IS HEATING UP

The Toreros are hunting down their 2nd WCC Championship in 3 years

In a thrilling matchup against West Coast Conference opponent Santa Clara, our Toreros showcased their talent and determination, securing a series victory with a resounding 2-0 win on Saturday evening at Fowler Park.

True freshman right-hander Logan Reddemann delivered a masterful performance on the mound, pitching eight scoreless innings and striking out nine batters while allowing just three walks.

But it wasn't just on the pitching mound where our Toreros shone.

Offensively, Will Worthington and Dustin Allen came through in the clutch, driving in both of USD's runs to secure the win. Worthington's RBI single in the fifth inning and Allen's impressive RBI sacrifice bunt in the seventh showcased the team's depth and ability to produce runs when it matters most.

With this victory, our Toreros continue to build momentum as we head into the West Coast Conference tournament. The three game series sweep of Santa Clara this past weekend gives the Toreros a commanding 2 ½ game lead in the WCC standings ahead of the conference tournament in Las Vegas May 22-25.

We invite you to join us in rallying behind our team and showing your support in any way you can. Donate, refer friends, share across social media, or do whatever else you can to advocate for our athletes and baseball team!

KEEP THE TOREROS IN SAN DIEGO

For years, our football team has proudly stood as a non-scholarship program, with players shouldering the financial burden of staying in San Diego over the summer to train and prepare for the upcoming season.

However, we recognize that this financial strain can be a barrier for some of our talented players, especially newcomers and transfers eager to join our ranks.

That's why we're excited to announce the launch of the Olé Foundation's Summer Campaign. The goal of this initiative is to raise funds to directly support our players by providing financial assistance for:

  1. Newcomer relocation expenses

  2. Meals, supplements, & wellness expenses

  3. Summer housing and income replacement

With many of our football players attending school, working, and working out during the summer, any contribution will definitely go a long way to assisting our athletes. Head Coach Brandon Moore will advise on the need and best use of the distribution of these funds, ensuring that players who wish to train with the team this summer have the opportunity to do so.

We look forward to keeping you up-to-date on the campaign’s progress throughout the summer, sharing stories from the field and highlighting our ongoing service work in the San Diego community with our football program.

ON THE COURT

USD Women’s Tennis

As we bid farewell to another exhilarating season of collegiate tennis, we want to take a moment to celebrate the remarkable achievements of both our men's and women's tennis programs.

The No. 18 and 2024 WCC Champions San Diego men's tennis team (23-4, 7-1 WCC) showcased their resilience and competitive spirit as they battled against No. 17 Texas A&M in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Despite a hard-fought effort, the Toreros were narrowly edged out by their opponents, ultimately falling 4-2. Standout performances from Stian Klaassen and Savriyan Danilov highlighted the team's tenacity, with Klaassen concluding an undefeated dual match season and Danilov securing a crucial win to tie the match at 2-2. Despite not emerging as the victorious team against Texas A&M, Klaassen & Sacchitt Sharrma will compete as a doubles team and Oliver Tarvet will compete as an individual in the NCAA individual championships May 20-25 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

On the women's side, the No. 23 San Diego women's tennis team (17-8, 5-1 WCC) also displayed remarkable talent and resilience as they competed against No. 11 USC in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Our Toreros fought valiantly, showcasing their skill and determination on the courts but fell short against the Trojans.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all our student-athletes, coaches, and support staff for their hard work and dedication throughout the season.
