In the Name of Las Toreras: Women's Soccer Historic Season Comes to an End
Record-breaking streaks, clutch performances, and a bright future for the Toreros!
WOMEN’S SOCCER SEASON WRAPS
Building Something Special: Year Two Under Coach LaPorte
When Coach Greg LaPorte took over USD Women's Soccer, he envisioned more than just a team; he envisioned Las TORERAS. The nickname isn't just catchy; it's an acronym that defines everything these athletes represent: Team, Ownership, Respect, Excellence, Resilience, Ambition, and Self-discipline. In year two under LaPorte, Las Toreras didn't just embrace that identity. They lived it.
A Historic Start
The Toreros got off to their best start in program history, owning an undefeated record through all eight non-conference matches. They were one of the last eight teams nationally to suffer a defeat, earning respect that had them breach the U.S. Soccer Coaches West Region Rankings for the first time in the players' careers.
This season's offensive explosion speaks volumes about the program's trajectory. Las Toreras netted 28 goals: double last year's total and quadruple the output from the season before LaPorte's arrival. It marked the highest scoring season since 2019.
Senior captain and forward Josefine Schlichting led the charge with eight goals, the most by a Torero since 2019. Sophomore defender Ella Callanan orchestrated from the back with six assists, the most by a USD player in at least seven years.
Senior Day Celebration
The season finale against Seattle U brought a season-best crowd to Torero Stadium for Senior Day. Though the match ended 3-1, the resilience that defined this team's season shone through. Down three goals, three seniors combined on a goal to close out the season in front of their home crowd, a fitting tribute to the seven graduating seniors: Josefine Schlichting, captain midfielder Kylie Smith, wingers Jenna Rubidoux and Katelyn Bessemer, grad midfielder Abigail Colton, Puerto Rican National Team defender Emma Gonzalez, and forward Olivia Jandreski.
All-Conference Recognition
The West Coast Conference recognized the excellence Las Toreras brought to the pitch in 2025. Callanan and Schlichting both earned Second Team All-WCC honors, and freshman Amanda Anders earned WCC All-Freshman Team.
The foundation has been laid. Las Torereas proved they belong among the elite programs in the West Coast Conference. With the hunger, passion, and self-discipline this team has shown, the future of USD Women's Soccer burns bright.

3-POINTERS TO THE FINISH
Red-Hot Shooting Lifts Toreros Past Idaho
USD Men's Basketball delivered a commanding performance from beyond the arc Wednesday night with a 78-74 victory over Idaho at home. The Toreros' backcourt duo put on a three-point shooting clinic that proved too much for the Vandals to overcome.
Junior guard Ty-Laur Johnson and senior Juanse Gorosito combined for an impressive 43 points, leading San Diego's offensive charge. Johnson posted a career-high three three-pointers on his way to 21 points, while Gorosito added 22 points on four treys. The dynamic pairing showcased exactly why they're the engine that drives this Toreros squad.
Clutch Time
San Diego finished the game on a blistering 5-for-5 shooting stretch while converting crucial free throws. Meanwhile, Idaho struggled through a 1-for-9 drought to close out the contest, sealing USD's victory.
Junior forward Vuk Boskovic stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, six rebounds, six assists, and three three-pointers, a complete performance that showcased his versatility. In his first start of the season, junior center Piotr Winkowski made his presence felt on the defensive end with a game-high three blocks to go along with six points. Gorosito also contributed a game-high four steals as part of the Toreros' nine total takeaways.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Toreros Roll Through Season Play, Build for the Future
USD Women's Volleyball is writing one of the most dominant chapters in program history this season, and head coach Jennifer Petrie is making sure that success continues well into the future.
Twelve Straight and Counting
The Toreros (19-4, 12-0 WCC) are riding a remarkable 12-game winning streak that spans 49 days and ten different opponents, all within West Coast Conference play. San Diego remains the only team still undefeated in WCC play, sitting in first place ahead of second-place Pepperdine (11-2) and third-place Oregon State (10-3).
This streak represents USD's longest since the historic 2022 season, when the Toreros set a program record with 28 consecutive victories en route to the NCAA National Semifinal; the longest win streak in the country that year.
Building Tomorrow's Champions
While the current team dominates on the court, Coach Petrie announced the signing of four talented freshmen who will join USD for the 2026 season. The recruiting class includes outside hitter Emma Brewer (Salem, Oregon), middle blockers Allie Dunnion (Phoenix, Arizona) and Ella Fulton (San Carlos, California), and outside hitter Ryann Knuth (Glenview, Illinois).

Perfect at Home: No. 9 Toreros Roll Past Gonzaga
No. 9 USD Men's Soccer (12-2-3, 6-1-1 WCC) capped off an unbeaten home season in style Saturday night, defeating Gonzaga 1-0 at Torero Stadium to keep their West Coast Conference championship hopes alive. The victory marked the Toreros' fifth consecutive shutout, setting a new program record for the longest stretch without allowing a goal in USD history.
Sophomore forward Iain Wagner continued his stellar season, burying his team-leading seventh goal of the year. The game-winner came off a perfectly placed cross from Devin Zachry after Taj Eagleston drew three Bulldog defenders to create space in the penalty box. Wagner headed home the opportunity to give the Toreros the lead they would never relinquish.
Sophomores Shine Bright
Wagner's goal was assisted by fellow sophomores Zachry and Eagleston, while goalkeeper Lucca Adams made two spectacular saves in the final few minutes to preserve his eighth clean sheet of the season.
Senior Night Farewell
Saturday's home finale marked the last meeting between USD and Gonzaga as conference opponents, with the Bulldogs departing the WCC at the conclusion of the athletic year. The Toreros honored twelve graduating seniors before the match: Vicente Ayala, Cesar Bahena, Simon Duus Muller, Samy Kanaan, Kayden Kropf, Josh Martinez, Kevin Pena, Adam Salama, Sami Tsipena, Christian Vigil, Owen Walz, and Ethan Warne. These men leave behind a legacy of excellence and countless memories in Torero blue.
